Disney has a long history of fashion collaborations with brands, retail shops, fashion labels, high fashion designers, and notable personalities. More often than not, these collaborations work like magic even if the products involved are made for adults and not for kids considering that the huge chunk of Disney products is inclined to the youth. One reason is that because, through Disney products including Disney sneakers, consumers get to reminisce about their childhood dreams and memories as these products bring a sense of nostalgia. Of course, their playful yet pleasing aesthetic is another factor.
The sneaker market is comprised of a diverse set of footwear brands, and each of these brands possesses a signature look as reflected in their products. This is where Disney collaborations play a significant role. Despite these disparities between sneaker brands, Disney has its way of somehow unifying the footwear industry by producing Disney sneakers that are not defined solely by a “Three Stripes,” “Swoosh,” “Formstrip,” “Jumping Cat,” “Sidestripe,” or other forms of signature brandings.
Following this point, below are typical characteristics of Disney sneakers regardless of brand:
Disney sneakers are commonly produced under collaboration with sneaker brands. They are usually made in limited quantities, thus get discontinued after some time. Like other sneaker collaborations, these sneakers are designed and produced to commemorate particular events or celebrations including film anniversary, new movie release, character's birthday, and so on. Also, Disney sneakers produced in collaboration with sneaker brands are launched in collections along with several other sneaker models from the brands. Enumerated below are some of the recent collections of Disney sneakers from different brands:
Disney’s “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was the first American-made animated film, which, in fact, is a hand-made animation. Many agreed that it may not be the best Disney movie ever created, but it is irrefutably the one that formed a template for every Disney animated film produced after that.
December 27, 2017, marked the film's 80th anniversary since it premiered in theaters. In commemoration of this event, Disney collaborated with sneaker brands for different collections of sneakers that are inspired by “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Some of these collections are the following:

2018 marks the 90th anniversary of Mickey and Minnie and in celebration of this joyful event, Disney teamed up with footwear brand Onitsuka Tiger to come up with Disney sneakers that would reflect the heritage of the two well-loved Disney characters.
The Disney-inspired Mexico Delegation sneakers first dropped on March 2, 2018, as the first Disney sneakers in the collection portraying Disney's power duo. Satin ribbon ruffles add a nice touch to the sporty façade of the shoe in either tonal black, white, or red colorway. “Minnie Mouse” text is printed on the insoles, and Minnie's name is stamped on the side. Minnie’s ribbon, on the other hand, is displayed on the heel tab.
Launched on March 10, 2018, these low-top Disney sneakers offer nothing but the best of both worlds from Onitsuka and Disney. The sneaker brand’s classic roots are evident on the signature Mexico 66 slim and iconic profile, while Disney-inspired design elements are added on sides, heel, and insoles.
The upper is made of leather and suede reflective material in three color options – red, white, and black. On the side part of the heel is Mickey’s hand alongside Onitsuka Tiger’s signature stripes.
Onitsuka Tiger and Disney also created Disney sneakers for kids that are based on Mexico 66 silhouette. Mickey and Minnie design elements are reflected in the colorways (red, black, or white) with either polka dots print or grid print.
Prices of Disney sneakers vary depending on the materials and technologies utilized or their brand. The collar height or profile is also a factor affecting their prices. Typically, like other sneakers, those built in high-top constructions are priced slightly higher than their lows or mids counterparts. Likewise, technologically advanced Disney sneakers are also more expensive than the regular ones.
To give you an idea, below are groupings of some Disney sneakers per price range.

Some examples of affordable Disney sneakers (up to $120):
Some examples of expensive Disney sneakers (up to $250):
Often, Disney sneakers from collaborations with sneaker brands come either as unisex models in men’s sizing or as women-exclusive models. There are also shoes released both in adult and kids sizing from infant to grade school. One example is the Disney x Asics Disney Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs collection which consists of women-exclusive Disney sneakers and one model made exclusively for kids.
Sneaker brands occasionally release Disney sneakers as part of their collaboration with Disney to celebrate an event, new movie release, or Disney movie’s or character’s anniversary. These sneakers are typically sold in limited quantities through the brand’s official website and stores, and at select retail shops.
Below are some of the sneaker brands that have collaborated with Disney in the past for Disney sneakers:
Disney-inspired sneakers are challenging to find because they are usually released as limited-edition sneaker models. As such, sizes sold out quickly most especially if the shoe model is highly-anticipated even before its release date. Some of these sneakers are also evident in the resale market and sold at a much higher price.
Like regular sneakers, Disney sneakers can be classified depending on the height of their collars. Low-tops have collars that fall below the ankle and offer ankle mobility and flexibility. Mid-top sneakers have collars that fall just at the ankle level and provide ample support and protection without much ankle restriction. High-tops, on the other hand, have high collars and provide excellent ankle support and stability.
Most of the current Disney sneakers are low-tops, and a few are high-tops. However, mid-top Disney sneakers are very limited and not as ubiquitous as the lows and the highs.
Like previously mentioned, Disney sneakers are, most of the time, limited-edition releases and get sold out pretty quickly. This fact makes these sneakers even more desirable for sneaker collectors and Disney fanatics, thus a much higher price in the resale market.
